Watercraft Rescue Operator Awareness/Operations/Technician

This 30-hour Pro Board course is designed to train the student in the skills required for certification in Watercraft Rescue. Skills for the program of instruction are drawn out of the job performance requirements found in Chapter 22 of NFPA 1006 and meet the requirements of NFPA 1670. Students will receive advanced instruction in watercraft rescue in both classroom and practical settings, including scenario-based instruction.

  • Recognizing Incident Hazards
  • Understanding of Watercraft/Equipment

  • Crew Overboard Events
  • Launching and Recovery of In-Water Rescuers
  • Watercraft Rescues
  • Towing Watercraft
  • Plotting a Course

Certification:

Students that successfully complete the program of instruction and pass a written and hands on skills evaluation will receive national certification through The National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).

Prerequisite Requirements:

Must be a member of WI-TF1.

Textbooks:

Textbooks required for class will be checked out to the student the first day of class and will be returned prior to receiving their certificate.  Textbooks can be purchased with advanced notice.

Required Equipment:

Students are required to wear a dry-suit, personal flotation device (PFD), helmet, wet shoes, and wet gloves.  All classes will be held regardless of weather conditions, foul weather gear is the student’s responsibility.  

Registration:

You must be a member of WI-TF1 to register for this course.

Meals and lodging will be provided to WI-TF1 members and open enrollment students.

Indicate your need for lodging and the dates the lodging is needed in the lodging information section of the registration. Your lodging is provided at no cost.

WI-TF1 members:  You will not pay tuition for this course.
