This course is designed for the first-line company officer/supervisor. The Fire Officer I course satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1021), Chapter 4 and provides the tools necessary to obtain certification through National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).
It is designed around classroom lectures and group exercises to improve your abilities to manage a single fire company. This includes responsibilities such as the development of an Incident Action Plan (IAP), personnel management and mentoring, and community relations.
Skills taught include:
- Human Resource Management at the Unit Level
- Community & Government Relations
- Unit – level administrative function and organization
- Effective Communication
- Fire Inspections
- Development & Implementation of an Incident Action Plan
- Firefighter Health & Safety
Students that successfully complete the program of instruction and pass a written exam and hands on skills evaluation will receive national certification through The National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (The Pro Board).
Prerequisites required for certification:
- Firefighter 2 (Pro Board or IFSAC)
- Fire Instructor 1 (Pro Board or IFSAC)
Textbooks required for class will be checked out to the student the first day of class and will be returned prior to receiving their certificate. Textbooks can be purchased with advanced notice.
For this course, duty uniform or business casual dress is required.
