This course is designed provide the knowledge and skills for successful certification in Fire Instructor 1. The Fire Instructor 1 course satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041, Chapter 4 and provides the tools necessary to obtain certification through the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).
It is designed around classroom lectures and group interactive exercises to improve your abilities to act as a fire instructor. This includes responsibilities such as instructional resource management, training record completion, and course execution.
Skills taught include:
- Course material management
- Completion of training records & reports
- Use of lesson plans, AV equipment, and instructional materials
- Administration and grading of tests
Students that successfully complete the program of instruction and pass a written and hands on skills evaluation will receive national certification through The National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (The Pro Board).
Prerequisites required for certification:
Textbooks required for class will be checked out to the student the first day of class and will be returned prior to receiving their certificate. Textbooks can be purchased with advanced notice.
For this course, duty uniform or business casual dress is required.

Members of the Wisconsin Fire Service
Due to an agreement with the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS), the REACT Center does not allow registration of members of any Wisconsin fire department in our Fire Instructor 1 program, as the Wisconsin Technical College System is the certifying body for Fire Instructor 1 for in-state fire service members. Contact the WTCS or your local technical college to inquire about this course for in-state fire service members.
